Are dental plans worth it?
I just graduated college so my insurance dropped me. I don’t start my job until May. Working a crappy job right now with no benefits. I need a root canal and just wondering if dental plans are all they make out to be?

It will probably be cheaper for you to save up for it, pay it up front or get a payment plan like care credit which is zerp finance if you pay it off in a yar.Dental plans in my opinion are legal scams. People sign up for dental planns thinking they have dental insurance but they dont, and many dont find out till they try to use it and ask what does my ins cover, then they are informed nothing, you dont have insurace you have a discount plan, and you have o pay for it all. The next things they mention is then why am i paying for it. With dental plans there is no third party payer so you pay for everything. they market it as no deductables, no minimums,. unlimited visits, easy referals etc, they make it sound like is so much better than insurance, and the reason they dont care how many times you go to the dentist or if you want to getting a cleaning ten times a day seven days a week is bc they never pay out a dime you pay for it all, so basically your buying a coupon. Some might say well I’ll get and then drop it, easier said than done, your contract locks you in for some time. also you are going to have difficulties finding a dentist, whomever is on their list may not see you for a month or two hoping you decide to go somewhere else bc they work at a loss if they see you, and or they use cheap material on you. Also many offices that sign up for dental plans are struggling and cant keep patients so you should ask yourself why is this doc relying on these cheap plans to try to get patients in the door.Ins is not all that great and unless you get it from an employer dental ins is not worth it either. But thats a different story.
depends on the plan but yes. Some places wont work on you without insurance or you paying the full cost up front. Dental work is VERY expensive.
Hi… I was looking an answer for the same question, but in my case I think is a little late… I have a Dental Plan attached to a Medical "Insurance" Plan, and I went to the dentist with a confidence to have some treatments (refered by the list the "Insurance" company provided to me) assigned with "no cost", but in the real world that is far to exist, because the dentist office always charge for something, even in those so called "NO CHARGE" treatments (ej: profilaxis, extractions, etc.), what they do is just simply change the CODE NUMBER assigned to a any of those "no charge" treatments (example: if you did a extractions they will say that treatment was another different (more complicated) to the one insert in your list, if you did a profilaxis they will say that was a secuel from a "root scalping and planning" and no a profilaxis, if you needed a crown (at $ 300 to $ 450 in the list) they will extracharge you with $200 more due "LABS FEES", so you never will paid or no paid the same price they tell you, and (that is the worse) your Provider will agree with those dentist and will never give to you the reason and never wil talk to you about any reimbursment if you though you must deserve it.
PD: I will put a link to a one page about this matter.
I work for a company that offers dental savings plans for $2 a week($99 a year). It cover every dental procedure! If you would like a rep to contact you about the insurance, please email me!
I would encourage you to visit this site: http://www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago now when I was in college and they have saved me thousands on all services. From root canals, fillings, exams, xrays…etc. All services are included in this very affordable plan. They even had my benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use it the very same day. hope this helps
