It depends…
If you only get braces on the top or bottom it will be different
Lets say you are getting braces on the top and bottom.
The doctor will first have to clean you teeth and get all the tarter off your teeth. If the doctor does not do this the glue that they will put on to hold the braces on will become gummy and it will not stick. When the doctors are cleaning your teeth they will probably ask you to bring your tongue back because the fluid they are using consists an acid that is powerful enough to destroy the tarter on they teeth but is very sour, like a lemon, only more sour. When they are done cleaning your teeth they will put the glue on your teeth and attach the braces. Once they are done the doctors will tell you how to brush your teeth with braces on, they might give you some tools to help you brush. You might also get to choose a color for your braces.
The first day with your braces will not be pleasant, your teeth are not used to your braces so, when you bite down you teeth will hurt a ton. . The pain will go away, it will be 2 or 3 days and then your teeth will stop hurting. Also, your lips might not be used to something over your teeth, so your lips are going to be uncomfortable. Your braces may rub off some of the skin of the inside of your mouth and it may hurt, but the doctors may be will give you some wax to put over your braces till the wound heals
When you eat food will get stuck in your teeth, but you can still eat things like gum and caramel, the things the doctor tells you on how the gum will stick to your braces if not as bad as it sounds.
Braces are not that bad but, once you get your braces off your teeth will be very pretty and straight.
I’m getting my braces on this Saturday, but I have done my research.
It’s not going to hurt while you get them on, but rather in a few hours after you get them on. People say their pain has varied from severe to just an ache. It will definitely hurt when you bite down on things, so only soft foods for awhile. I’m sure applesauce or yogurt will become your best friends until you can eat hard foods agian. Also, it would probably be best to take some pain killers about 20 minutes before getting your braces put on!
ok you shud get color in your braces so wont look plain.plain doesnt appeal to me
Braces make your mouth look like a horse face!
i know this from experience yo! It made my twin sister Girlishda look like a chipmunk cause she’s the fatter of the bunch
Don’t go through with it.
I LOVE YOU =D
its not as bad as everyone sayssss
im 15 and i got mine at 14 and i didnt have crooked teeth i just had an over bite, and its really not that bad just remmber:
1. WEAR YOUR BANDS!!! it is worth it… trust me
2. do the flossing that they say to do
3. its okay to eat popcorn gum and stuff
They will do some x-rays, do an impression ( they stick your mouth in this putty) then they put your braces on. Your mouth will be sore for about 3 to 4 days. Eat soft foods. Soup, yogurt, pudding, mashed potatos, maccoroni.
well it doesn’t hurt getting it on but after u noe 2-3 hours it starts to fell uncomfortable and that will last 4 probably 3 days but u’ll get used to it and after a monthu won’t feel all that uncomfortable
They hurt 4 like the first week, and then they stop hurting. Do what the orthodontist tells you, or you have to have them longer. don’t eat carrots or similar food because it breaks the bands and you have to get it fixed and it doesn’t hurt but its a waste of time. Don’t choose a light color for the bands if you want people to be able to see what color they are. they’re really annoying but surviveable.
I have braces right now be aware that it does hurt and it does make you so you cant eat all the food you ussaly did. When you get them on it dosent hurt dont worry you wont be crying in the ortho chair but after an hour or so it starts to hurt. You cant eat anything like bubble gum taffy or anything hard!!You usally can pick out the colors rubberbands and thats the only part i like about braces lol!!Be sure to brush floss and clean your braces or else the braces when you get them off the part where the braket was would be all white and the outside will be yellow!!
hope you love your brace face lol!!
It’s a pain to get them put on your teeth, they have the put this tool in your mouth to make it stay open for so long, it’s just this rubber thing. Nothing drastic. They give you a few breaks in between putting them on and your lips will be dry from staying open so long, I suggest you bring some chap stick.
They hurt really bad the first few days. Only eat soft foods.
Once you go in to get your braces tightened for the first time, which would be a couple of months after you get the braces, don’t be suprised; it hurts like crap.
They’ll give you a list of foods not to eat and it will have a bunch of stuff that you DO NOT eat with braces, and potatoe chips on there, but I ate them all the time and it was fine. Stay away from star bursts, popcorn, bubble gum, etc. Chewing Gum like Orbit, Stride, Trident is ok though.
Anything else you wanna know?
Haha, I’ve had braces for 5 years now. I can tell you the works.
The first thing they do is, well, put on the braces. This is pretty painless, but it will still be the worst time of the whole ordeal. I had to learn how to eat all over again, because for some reason, my mouth wouldn’t register braces and my tongue wouldn’t function properly (wow, that sounds weird). The first week will be H E double hockey sticks. The part that will hurt the most throughout is getting your wires changed. They will change the thickness of the wires every time you go there, and so every time your mouth moves and ACHES!!. Soup will be your BEST FRIEND EVERR. Stock up on soup. Also, what I prefer to do, is take a Tylenol (or pain reliever of your choice) when I am in the car on my way, so you don’t have to wait for it to kick in, it’s already waiting to diminish the pain.
If you are getting the newer kind of braces, the ones with the "doors" that open and close, those are a lot less painful AND they work faster. If you get the regular kind that has to have the rubber band closing it, those HURT every time they tweak it. But, they are prettier because you choose what color rubber band you want. Then again, my orthodontist lets me have on rubber bands on my top 4 teeth, even though they are totally unnecessary.
If you like caramel, rock candy, etc., eat a lot of that now. If you like bubble gum, you can’t really have that because all the sugar particles will get stuck under your braces, hence, cavities. I know Trident and Extra and Orbit make bubblegum flavored sugarless gum. Although, Stride is definitely my favorite gum because it lasts FOREVER!! (try the dark blue)
Have fun!! Just remember that all the pain you will be going through will get you an amazing smile!! Wish you all the best!
Hope I helped!!
:]
There are most likely one of three reasons for your treatment:
1. The problem is moderate to severe and you were referred to the orthodontist by a regular dental specialist.
2. The problem is very minor and you were referred to the orthodontist by a regular dental specialist.
3. The problem is very minor and you or your parents want you to have braces.
Only the #1 situation would actually require you to get braces. This is only about 10% of teenagers between the ages of 13-15. According to many reviews in magazines and online, most orthodontic treatments are done only to improve aesthetics; not to treat a medical condition. If you have a situation like #2 or #3, braces would not significantly improve your teeth alignment. This is most common when you do not have any extra teeth and the only problem is lateral alignment.
The general treatment time for people with braces between the ages of 11-12 is about 12-20 months. For people aged 13-15 the treatment time is about 18-24 months, however it can take much longer, sometimes in excess of 35 months even if the problem is very minor.
Unless you are in the 10% group who have a moderate to severe orthodontic problem, braces are not worth the sometimes 2 year ordeal to have a minor problem corrected. If a person is happy without braces and they feel that treatment is unnecessary, then they do not need to have treatment.
i’ve had mine on for 8 months now. Getting them on only takes less than half an hour but it depends if you have them on top and bottom or just one. They firstly glue on the brackets, put metal squares on your back teeth then attach the wires and tighten them and then its finished. They dont hurt whilst getting them on but will ache for a few days after as your teeth start to move. Dont eat anything to hard after getting them on as it will hurt to eat on your back teeth and will feel weird when biting into things at first.
Good luck
