Can you get a payment plan from a dentist, even if you have insurance?
I have cavities that I need filled and one really sensitive tooth, but I don’t have the money to pay for it all. I’m planning on getting insurance through Humana Dental, but even with it I can’t afford it. What are the chances of getting a payment plan with insurance?

I could only do it by having my teeth fixed beforehand, in other words the dentist would only start the plan when he was satisfied that there was no work to be done.
Heck, I do this all the time. I have insurance, but with the co-pay, it seems I cannot get out of the dentist for less than $200 if I get anything done besides a check-up. So I might send them like $50 or $75 a month. They don’t put up a stink because 1) they already got a bunch of money from my insurance company and 2) we have an established relationship and they know I will pay the bill, even if it takes a little while. If you look through the court records in your local paper, all the listings in small claims court for people being taken to court for not paying for dental work, clinic bills, and hospital bills–I figure they’re probably pretty happy some of us pay at all!
Unfortunately, no. I asked the same thing when I was uninsured and needed my wisdom teeth removed and cavities filled. Also, you can’t get insurance to cover a preexisting condition.
I was lucky enough to have parents that have a dental credit card. They let me borrow their card and I paid it off. You may be able to apply for one.
Actually pretty good, most dentists will work with you, so long has you have a job, been in your area for awhile. Call around
First off, dont believe anything negative everyone says here. I’m really starting to hate this site because its becoming so negative, people actually used to be helpul. Anyways, yes you can. I went to a dentist and they quoted me an amount and told me there were payment options through some company and it was like the first answer said, done in monthly payments. I didnt go with that dentist because they were shady(I got the work done from another denist for 1/3 of the cost) so I dont know what company was, but I do have insurance. I have it through my work though, so Im not sure how independent insurance is but I am sure it’s the same. Also, I dont really believe that they wont work on you if you have a pre existing condition when it comes to dental work and insurance companies. First off, how do they know you had it before you got insurance? This is not life insurance people and I dont know what state you are from but I live in California and they do not do exams on you before you can get medical or dental insurance. Thats stupid, dental issues can arise at any time-exp cavities. Go to this website http://www.carecredit.com, they offer you payment plans through medical professionals in your area. All you have to do is look for whatever dentists are available in your insurance plan and then look and see which ones offer care credit as a payment option. Its like finacing your teeth, instead of a car and you just have to have enough okay credit to get finaced. I only did this for my dog with the vet, but they offer all kinds of services including dental. Plus they have a no interest fee if you pay within 18 months. If for some reason this doesnt work, a lot of dentists are willing to work with you. Just call around, get quotes and options and do not settle for anything that seems shady. Also, make sure you know what your insurance company covers becasue I didnt the first time and they quoted me way more than my plans co payment was. Ignore all the negative feedback and Good luck!
