   It may be difficult to find an insurance provider to kick in for the cost of braces if it is only for cosmetic purposes. Also, many dental insurance providers require that you pay a certain amount in premiums before they will cover anything at all. Also, they only cover a certain percentage of the work done. Find a reputable orthodontist, and ask what insurance coverage they accept, and ask if they know the insurance benefit package specs. You may also want to consider financing over time if the amount covered by the ins. company is high. The orthodontist will be able to tell you which financing packages are offered in your area. BEWARE: financing medical/dental costs are generally a high interest finance deal. They give you a certain amount of time to pay interest free, then you get slammed with a high finance rate.

   If its not offered through your employer, then don’t bother. Most companies only have orthodontic coverage if the employer is over a certain number of employees (25?) So, finding true insurance for just one individual is near impossible. Also, don’t be misled by discount plans (sold at Sam’s or Costco), they are not the same. They give a discount to you when you go to their providers, watch out though, the doctors are usually not good. They sign up to be on the plan to gain referrals and have to compensate the discount by either having higher prices or have to have more patients. This makes the quality of care go down usually. Also, you may pay more for membership or premiums than you may get in benefits…best bet is to fork out the full fee for the braces.
