Do you need dental coverage to have your wisdom teeth out?
My husband's wisdom teeth are causing a lot of pain. He really needs to have them out but we don't have dental coverage. Is oral surgery covered by regular insurance or is it included in dental? We have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and we pay for it out of pocket.

If the teeth are fully bony impacted or partial bony impacted, extraction is generally covered under a medical insurance policy.
That's the key though - fully or partially impacted in the bone. (With wisdom teeth, that's generally the case.)
You can call your insurance company to confirm whether you have a benefit for impacted teeth, and if so…which oral surgeons are in the network? And then confirm with the provider whether your husband's teeth are fully or partially bony impacted.
Check your plan for oral surgery. When I had mine done they billed health insurance not dental insurance.

No, you can always use cash. Dental/oral surgery are almost always excluded from standard medical insurance policies. However, many dental policies cover the procedure. When I had my wisdom teeth removed 20 years ago, my deductible was some $500 on top of insurance.

No, you don't. Most people don't have much dental coverage for this - you usually end up paying it out of pocket.
My dental plan, picks up about $500, for a maximum payout of ALL benefits, of $1,000 a year. So, I had a bad tooth year last year, and needed three crowns. They paid $1,000. I paid $2200.
