How do I find a dentist who is patient with claustrophobic patients?
I’ve begun getting extreme closed-in feelings when my current dentist is working on me, and he gets snippy with me and doesn’t have any patience for my problem. I need to find a patient dentist and one that is also on my ERS list of dentists. I have claustrophobia.

most dentist are very aware of this problem,and will work you through every step of the way ,i have had a major problem with anxiety,and dentist visits just inform the doctor they will help you.

I too am extremely claustrophobic. When at the dentist I feel very trapped and feel as if I am choking. I have been seeing my dentist for 30 years and he has been very patient with me. At first he kept me seated more upright, avoided leaning over my face to tightly, let me take breathers and made sure the assistant keep the suction going. After a while this failed as well and he suggested I try taking 1 mg of Ativan before appointments for dental work, I’m OK with the hygienist. This has worked out quite well for both of us with the only drawback being I have to have someone take me to this appointments since you cannot drive on Ativan. Had that not worked he would have tried the laughing gas next. Make some phone calls and discuss your options before making an appointment and good luck, it can be done.

I stress out from the dentist and my mother works there. What she has always done to comfort me is to give me the gas, then your out of it and when you wake up it’s done. Also, a dentist that can deal with children is accustomed to dealing with special requests so I would recommend a children’s dentist in your area.
I tend to feel very trapped and bored when I go to the dentist. I like a dentist that talks a lot and tells me every little thing he/she is doing to my teeth. Then I don’t feel so trapped or bored.
By all means find a dentist that treats you with kindness and respect.
Who needs a snippy dentist!?
I would call several dentists and tell them about my problem. I’m sure there will be someone out there that is understanding and kind.
look for one that has a really really big surgery. Maybe even he works outside ! Don’t look for dentists who work in little shoe boxes
ask to be placed on a medication that relaxes u..like triazilom (i don’t no if this is the correct spelling) but alot of our patients take this it make s them relaxed and sometimes they do not even remember the procedure
