I am looking for some low cost options for dental work for the elderly in Texas?
My mother lives near the DFW area (SW of Fort Worth) and needs some teeth extracted & dentures, but she can’t afford the cost.
I am not certain how much I can help. (I am already giving her my old van for her to sell instead of selling it myself. But it is beaten up & won’t go for much)
Thank you

Teaching dental colleges offer much reduced rates but give quality care. Check out the universities. My Sister in law uses them in CA.
Perhaps you should ask on Yahoo answers.com, i don’t think many people in the UK will know, sorry.
Try contacting the Local Area Agency on Aging.
You can find this agency at the website
Eldercare Locator
http://www.eldercare.gov/Eldercare/Public/Home.asp
If your mom qualifies for Medicaid, then some of the dental work might be covered.
Good luck to you and your mom!
I can’t really help. Sorry. I can however direct you to the Yahoo Search that I am looking at. Maybe you can find one. Good Luck!

The words low cost and dental don’t go together anymore.
Good luck in your search.
I would be willing to bet there is a charter that goes to the border with aging that need inexpensive dental work. They absolutely do it for prescriptions…Dental charters make perfectly sound sense…
Whats with the dodo who thinks this is only British yahoo?????
Around here for that kind of thing we look for dental colleges, they are always looking for someone to work on. and the cost is minimal. good luck
Please check out "The University of Texas/Dental Branch"in that area.
I live in Houston. Went to the branch here for awhile.
Other then that I would check out Southern Dental.
My husband got his dentures there before we heard of the dental school.
Good luck to your Mother.
Bad teeth can cause other medical problems.
Don’t put it off. There may be a waiting list. There was here.
Blessings to you & your Mother.
Try Mexico. I get my teeth cleaned regularly in Mexico for $10 and it’s the best work I’ve ever had done. My sister had her false teeth done and it was so low cost and they look great. Try the dentists in Progresso. You can get your teeth done and have a nice vacation.
Do you have a council on Area Aging or something like it there? They would know where you could go for her dental work. You might also call the health dept. in Dallas and they might tell you who you could contact to find out more about it. We have a dentist near here who does work according to income. In a city the size of Dallas there must be one some place. Or a dental school who does it for lower prices. Good luck.
