I need help picking the best dental insurance or discount card?
I’m a college student and I have no insurance but I need to go to the dentist and I was wondering if anybody knew of good insurance or which discount cards are good. I don’t really know how much it would cost without insurance either.

In 1946, Congress passed a law that gave hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities grants and loans for construction and modernization. In return, they agreed to provide a reasonable volume of services to persons unable to pay and to make their services available to all persons residing in the facility’s area. The program stopped providing funds in 1997, but about 300 health care facilities nationwide are still obligated to provide free or reduced-cost care.

There are alot of factors when determining what insurance is best for you.
As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. The higher the premium (the amount you pay the insurance company), the higher the benefits, usually.
The dental insurance industry, like the health insurance industry needs a revamping. People are fooled into signing up for insurance plans, only to find that their copays/deductibles are outrageous, or that many of the procedures they need are not covered. I often correct our patients when they say " we get 2 free cleanings a year". They are not free! YOU are paying for them. Most insurance companies pay out a maximum of @ $1000 per year. So if you need alot of dental work, anything over and above that $1000 is coming out of your pocket, in addition to the premium of a few hundred dollars you pay to the insurance company and any deductible and copays you take care of in the office.
Most individual plans stink. They sell you a cheap policy where you end up paying quite a bit as copays. The only real worthwhile plans are offered to employees of big companies.
You really need to evaulate your needs. If you have a relatively healthy mouth and only require 2 cleanings a year and maybe one cavity, that might run you a total of about $400 (where I am anyway) a year. Most pay more than that in premiums a year. So at the very least, you break even, if not save money.
