I would ask if you take them to the same office you work at. It might be annoying to ask every time but is it worth the money you save?
I think the people who said you are cheap are being unfair. Most places where people work, they get discounts. People at McDonald’s get free food, people who work at department stores get a discount, police officers get out of tickets, it is the same thing!
I also have a friend who works at a Children’s dentistry and she gets a discount.
YOU HAVE INS, don’t be so cheap! Dentist work just as hard as any one else, why short change them what’s due. Just because you work in the field doesn’t mean a thing other than you should have a better understanding of the amount of work which goes into a day.
So you work in "the field" what biller? do you know the rates? Do you know the amount each dentist has to pay for liability insurance? Do you know what they pay for those who are uninsured.
Be happy you have insurance. Be happy you’re working and pay your 20% like everyone else.
dont be cheap and dont ask
I believe it is no longer allowed in a medical or dental practice to extend a professional courtesy discount to a patient. It falls under the category of preferential treatment. I work in the operating rooms of a large hospital and last December the administration sent letters to each physician on staff suggesting that they no longer send food of gifts to the OR because it could be misconstrued as a bribe! Luckily, they sent them anyway. It’s getting crazy! I agree; be glad you have dental insurance. Good luck to you.
When my son was little, I tried to get his dental work done in the office I worked in, but he wouldn’t cooperate. So I ended up taking him to a pediatric dentist that we referred to. They gave me a professional discount on the actual work, but not on cleanings, x-rays and exams.
If your office refers alot of business to this office, they should give you a discount. However, if you are just a normal everyday patient, who just happens to be in the dental field, I don’t believe that they would give yo a discount every time.
